Vietnam-based H&P Architects have developed a low-cost housing project for a flood-prone area with year-round extreme temperatures. The structures are built with local materials like bamboo, leaves, and recycled oil containers, and cost under $2,000 per unit. The construction is simple enough for villagers to assemble their own homes, and they are strongly secured with anchors to float in case of flooding. The exterior of the houses act as vertical gardens, while adjustable roof panels allow for ventilation. The bamboo homes can be built for six or eight member families.
