Horses are Jill Greenberg's original muses; she painted and drew horses from a young age. Greenberg was reinspired by her daughter's interest in animals and riding, as well as a British academic article about the similarities between the oppression of women and the function of horses. Greenberg's Horse captures the animal's body as well as its innate sexual energy, much like another photographer would capture a woman.
