The people behind the small company Back to the Roots are no strangers to botany. Started by two UC Berkeley grads, the company gained exposure after making a kit that grows mushrooms from coffee beans. Now they have decided to venture into the sea world, but not by leaving their gardening roots behind.

Via a Kickstarter project, the company has created the "Home Aquaponics Self-Cleaning Fish Tank," which cleverly uses your fish's waste as fertilizer. You can plant herbs on top of the tank such as mint, oregano, and basil. Feed the fish and forget about it.
