Terminal 2 at the San Francisco International Airport is no longer just a well-designed, easy-to-maneuver place to travel through. Most are unaware of the fact that the city spent $2.5 million on artwork for the terminal, as part of an ordinance demanding that 2% of construction costs go towards art enrichment and public art.
As part of this, Seattle-based artist Nori Sato has made the Air Over Under installation out of hand-painted glass, which juxtaposes bird wings and airplane wings. This piece, plus others, have given the airport the most valuable art collection in the city outside of museums, which is pretty impressive.
