The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute announced their spring 2013 exhibition titled PUNK: Chaos to Couture. The co-chairs are Rooney Mara, Lauren Santo Domingo,
Riccardo Tisci, and Anna Wintour, the creative consultant is Nick Knight, and the curator is Andrew Bolton.

The show will feature approximately 100 designs for men and women, juxtaposing original punk garments from the mid-1970s with contemporary fashion. Viewers will notice a range of punk visual symbols, from safety pins to razor blades and studs. It will be organized into five thematic sections — Rebel Heroes, Pavilions of Anarchy and Elegance, Punk Couture, D.I.Y. Style, and La Mode Destroy.

In the words of Met Director and CEO, Thomas P. Campbell,

“Punk’s signature mixing of references was fueled by artistic developments such as Dada and postmodernism, so it makes sense to present this exhibition in a Museum that also shows the broader output of those movements. Indeed, that dialogue between art and fashion is what makes The Costume Institute so singular."

The exhibition will be on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 9 through August 11, 2013.
