In the last two decades, American manufacturing has seen a sharp decline in favor of super cheap foreign manufacturers, where workers are only paid nickels on the hour. Human rights violations and everything else aside, this shift has cost Americans a lot of jobs. Don't fret though, because there may be a solution. Due to the insatiable nature of fast-paced fashion, NYC retailers are relying more and more on local manufacturers in the Garment District. Instead of waiting six months to receive a shipment from China and missing out on current trends, these retailers are doing business with locals, who would only take six weeks. The next time someone tries to call you materialistic for your obsessive style habits, tell them to kick rocks. [Racked]
