The paintings of Bob Dylan's "Asia Series" at the Gagosian Gallery have recently come under fire due to allegations of plagiarism from investigative fans. Touted as being inspired by the musician's travels in Japan, China, Vietnam, and Korea, it was soon found that there were photographs highly similar to the paintings on the flickr stream of a user named Okinawa Soba.
In addition, it appears other paintings were based on photos Dylan had licensed from Magnum Photos. Gagosian has defended Dylan's work, and others have said that his painting process is similar to the creative process he uses when making music. [WNYC]
