Like many of our favorite outerwear styles, trench coats are of military origin. First introduced during WWI as an optional dress item for the British Army, they've remained a wardrobe staple ever since, with popularity centered around businessmen looking to top off a power suit on rainy days (and subway flashers/cinema self-pleasurers needing a uniform).
