Talk about 420-unfriendly.

Texas Wesleyan University’s baseball coach is petty AF. Mike Jeffcoat, who’s also a former MLB pitcher, is catching heat for a shady email he sent a high school prospect in Colorado. Apparently, Jeffcoat doesn’t think too highly of players the Centennial State and their alleged 420-friendly habits. Jeffcoat previously played for the Texas Rangers and started coaching at Texas Wesleyan in 2002.

"Thanks for the interest in our program," Jeffcoat told the player in an email. "Unfortunately, we are not recruiting players from the state of Colorado. In the past, players have had trouble passing our drug test. We have made a decision to not take a chance on student-athletes from your state. You can thank your liberal politicians. Best of luck wherever you decide to play." Insert awkward cricket noises here.

The authenticity of the email was confirmed by The Houston Chronicle. John Veilleux, the vice president of the university, said that while he was “definitely aware” of what had happened, “The comments he made are in no way a reflection of Texas Wesleyan University, its values or its recruiting practices.” Veilleux went on to say, “This is a personnel matter and it is currently under investigation. We follow due process here. It is our university policy to not discuss personnel matters."

Former Texas Wesleyan baseball coach, Allan Dyer, was “shocked” by the incident. “I've never seen a coach send an email like that to a kid," said Dyer. "I was kind of shocked a coach would connect a political issue to a kid. ... It just made no sense. The student has not been in trouble one time at our school."
