On Tuesday night during Game 2 against the Hawks, the Celtics played their worst playoff game ever that traumatized Boston fans who witnessed an eye-widening debacle. In the immortal words of Kermit The Frog, it ain't easy being Green.
In the first quarter, the Celtics shot a horrid 3-23 in field goal attempts and didn't connect on any of their six 3-point shots. They only managed to score 7 points, the lowest scoring total since the NBA implemented the shot clock in 1954. Yes, 7, that's it! That's less than the amount of games that the Warriors lost for the entire regular season.
They are now in the same company as these teams who scored the lowest in a first quarter. But this is the NBA playoffs— not the regular season like those first quarter bricklayers did. And to run the Celtics even more out of Atlanta's Phillips Arena, the Hawks also set a playoff franchise record with 15 blocks against the C's. Hawks center Al Horford led the defensive strike with five blocks, and you can see in the clip above how brutal they were swatting down shot after shot.
The Celtics trailed the rest of the game to the Hawks, and lost 89-72. And, of course, Twitter never fails to blast off when these types of things happen:
The Hawks are up 2-0 in the series. They play again in Boston for Game 3 on Friday night.
