Last month, 47-year-old Roy Jones Jr. announced that he'd give one lucky fan a chance to fight him in the ring for $100,000. Yes, he's still going through with this.
The lucky guy is 33-year-old Vyron Phillips, a Minnesota-bred MMA fighter with a 6-3 record. Unimpressive, but the man sure is excited about the opportunity.
Do not ask me if I am ready, I must be ready! God brought me here, God is real and I've felt his touch! march 20th is Special #belieVee
This is not mma vs boxing this is Boxing vs Boxing me vs @RealRoyJonesJr vs Me we both are scholars in the sport of Boxing.
It's worth noting that the contest's original rules—anybody could enter—had to be adjusted. Arizona's boxing commission wouldn't approve a fight against someone who didn't have a professional record. So, Jones Jr. will have a harder time in this bout, and the fact that he got knocked out in his one doesn't inspire much confidence.
But the show will go on. The PPV fight will take place this Sunday
