Giants Will Reportedly Hire Ben McAdoo as Their Next Head Coach

Not the attractive choice, but this could be a solid one.

The New York Giants have reportedly found the person who will replace Tom Coughlin as the team's head coach: offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo. Earlier today, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that the Giants "liked" former Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith and had "similar feelings" for former Buffalo Bills head coach and current Jacksonville Jaguars assistant head coach Doug Marrone. However, it was McAdoo who may have landed the job.

According to Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles had "strong interest" in hiring McAdoo, forcing New York to lock him up before their division rivals had a chance.

While McAdoo doesn't have the same big name appeal as offensive coordinators like Hue Jackson, who was hired by the Cleveland Browns today, or Adam Gase, the 38-year-old does give Eli Manning a successful offensive system he's already comfortable working with. Last season, Manning posted a career-high in passing touchdowns (35) and quarterback rating (93.6). At 35, Eli couldn't afford to start from scratch with a new O.C., learn a brand new system and have the fans expect immediate results.

McAdoo may not be the attractive choice, but he could prove to be a solid one.

And for those wondering...

Plan right now is for Steve Spagnuolo, who interviewed for the NYG HC gig, to remain as defensive coordinator, sources say.
