Do you want to know how you get better at things? *leans in and whispers* Practice.
We know, we know, really revolutionary stuff here at Complex Sports, but it’s true! If you want to get better at anything—whether it be basketball or beer pong—all you’ve gotta do is practice. You’ll improve.
Wisconsin women’s basketball coach Bobbie Kelsey is having a hard time getting her players to buy into that theory, though. They aren’t practicing as much as she would like them to, and as a result, they’re shooting like crap lately. Last night, they missed eight of the nine three-pointers they took and, worse, six of the seven free throws they took during a 75-62 loss to Nebraska. So after the game, she showed up at her press conference and ripped them for not practicing their shooting more. She mentioned Steph Curry as a good example of what practicing can do—and then lit into her team.
“You can’t nap your way to being a good shooter,” he said. “And Facebooking and all these things that teenagers do. You need to put the phones down, stop FaceTiming, stop tweeting, and get your butt in the gym. There’s no magic formula, no secret potions you can rub on your hands. Get your butt in the gym and practice!”
Remarkable rant, Coach. You can check out her entire thing in the clip—and you can also check out a mash-up of the rant below, which features Kelsey’s rant spliced together with Allen Iverson’s epic “Practice?!” rant, just to make it even better than it already is.
