Before Kevin Garnett became a great, he was a rookie trying to find his way with the Minnesota Timberwolves. This was in 1995, when Flip Saunders also made his head coaching debut. Garnett became Saunders' first star and later became one of his closest friends in the NBA.
Saunders passed away earlier today after a battle with Hodgkins' lymphoma. Garnett sent his love through a poignant Facebook post.
After spending time with the Celtics and Nets, Garnett was going to finish his career with the Timberwolves. In fact, he was planning on joining Saunders in a bid to buy the Timberwolves after his playing days were over, according to the Pioneer Press.
