During a recent interview with ESPN, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed that he's not going to make any more bold predictions about his Dallas teams. Rookie La'el Collins—who literally just signed with the team today after his ties to a serious legal issue caused him to go undrafted last week—is making no such promises.
All 32 NFL teams passed on the opportunity to select Collins during the 2015 NFL Draft after discovering that police in Baton Rouge, La. wanted to question with him about a pair of murders, including one involving his pregnant ex-girlfriend. But after speaking with him earlier this week, Jones decided to sign Collins to a deal this morning. And Collins repaid him by making a ridiculously bold statement. He told reporters that he plans on being a part of the best offensive line ever in Dallas.
"This is going to be the best offensive line in NFL history," Collins told the Cowboys' team website. "Mark my words."
Yikes. We appreciate the confidence. But considering Collins probably hasn't even met most of the offensive line yet, should he really be christening them the "best offensive line in NFL history"? Didn't he learn anything from Vince Young and the "dream team" comments he made about the Eagles back in 2011?
Eh. Maybe he's too young to remember that. But he should probably let the ink dry on his rookie contract before he starts talking anymore trash.
