Mets Team Spokesman: Daniel Murphy Will No Longer Discuss His Religion

Daniel Murphy isn't going to be able to talk about his religion anymore.

Earlier today, we told you about Mets infielder Daniel Murphy's feelings on homosexuality. After practicing with former MLB player Billy Bean—a gay man who serves as baseball's Ambassador for Inclusion—yesterday, Murphy said that he "100 percent" disagrees with Bean's gay "lifestyle." He said that he wouldn't have a problem playing alongside of a gay player like Bean. But he also said that, as a Christian, he couldn't condone him being gay.

Murphy's comments obviously didn't well with some people. So earlier today, a Mets spokesman told ESPN New York that he will no longer address his religion with reporters. He "will stick to baseball" when speaking with the media and won't talk about things like his thoughts on homosexuality. It's definitely a strange stance for the Mets to take—it's one thing to ask Murphy not to talk about religion and quite another to tell him that he can't do it—but moving forward, you shouldn't expect to hear Murphy or any other Mets talking about religion, Bean, or gay MLB players.

So all in all, Bean's visit to the Mets' training camp did a lot to advance the idea of "inclusion" within baseball! Errr...
