Remember when the NFL said that they’d be transparent as they attempt to rebuild their image? Well, that’s apparently not starting just yet.
The league is reportedly doing everything in their power to prevent Roger Goodell from testifying in the appeal hearing of Ray Rice. That would be pretty impressive if they can pull it off, given that Goodell is the one who led the investigation and handed down both the two game and indefinite suspensions to Rice.
It’s not hard to see why the NFL doesn’t want Goodell going under oath. He’d actually have to answer questions directly and truthfully, rather than his usual tactic of painting in very broad strokes. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.
While the resolution will likely be somewhere in the middle, it’s pretty pathetic that the league is already ducking answering tough questions. What happened to having nothing to hide?
