Aided by goals from Clint Dempsey and John Brooks, the USMNT defeated Ghana, 2-1, in its first game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The team, however, was not without its fair share of setbacks. Jozy Altidore suffered a hamstring injury in 22nd minute and, at time of print, his status for return is still unknown. Shortly thereafter, Dempsey caught a kick to the face and spent the remainder of the game struggling to breath. That said, Group G was branded as the "group of death" for the United States, but Monday night's win is an encouraging first step on the road to the Round of 16.
