At some point in the not-so-distant future, the Washington Redskins are going to have to change their team's name, right? Er, right?

It certainly looks that way. Because at the moment, there are quite a few people out there calling for them to do it. And the latest group of people to petition the NFL to change the Redskins' name includes 50 U.S. senators. The group got together recently and sent a letter to the league asking for them to change the Redskins' name ASAP.

"Today, we urge you and the National Football League to send the same clear message as the NBA did: that racism and bigotry have no place in professional sports," the letter said. "It's time for the NFL to endorse a name change for the Washington, D.C. football team."

Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has steadfastly refused to change his team's name. But now that U.S. senators are getting involved and calling out the NFL and the Redskins, we don't think it's going to be long before Roger Goodell is forced to make an executive decision about the future of the Redskins' franchise.
