Michael Sam unjustifiably faces opposition because of his decision to publicly come out last weekend, and hateful groups like the Westboro Baptist Church are one of them. But with his decision comes a strong support network, which includes a Missouri student body that seems more open-minded than the rest of the world.
Fourteen Westboro church members attempted to protest at the university for no reason other than to spread hatespeak when they were stopped by a huge force: a half-mile wall made up of students, faculty, and former fellow Missouri players. This was dubbed the Wall of Love, and the the proud members of the Missouri community weren't something Westboro could overcome.
Sam was moved:
Thank you for all of my Mizzou family for your support. Divided we are weak, Together we are Strong. #OneMizzou pic.twitter.com/SMAPZHk2hX
Sam might become the first gay player ever in the NFL, and whatever happens, he'll always have remarkable support system.
