The roller coaster ride of one J.R. Smith has more downs than ups. Smith got himself into even more trouble when he untied Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion's shoe during a break at the free-throw line. The NBA warned Smith about the incident according to sources, but there's no word of what the NBA said to Smith specifically.
New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson said he would give a talking to Smith:
"He shouldn't be doing stuff like that," the coach said. "I'm going to talk to him a little more about it when I get in there. His focus should just be on playing basketball. That's what it's about and those are things you just don't do. You think you've seen it all and something creeps in."
Marion didn't seem to take it too serious:
"He was just playing," Marion said, laughing. "I think he just wanted to have some fun. That's all it was. It was just some joyful play. ... They made it a bigger deal than what it was. He was just playing. That's all."
Maybe J.R. should hold off on the antics for now because from a PR standpoint, Knicks fans are calling for his head with the team struggling throughout the early part of the NBA season. All he can do to recover is win because winning cures all.
