Did he earn it?

It looks like Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra is here to stay. He's finalizing a two-year contract with the team, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Spoelstra was entering the final year of his contract this season and was about to be the most sought after free agent coach since Phil Jackson. The competing teams would've had to be prepared to make a pretty lucrative offer to pull away from such a talented team, especially since he's formed a solid relationship with reigning king LeBron James. The Heat is expected to make the deal public before it starts training camp this week.

Spoelstra started his tenure with the Heat in 2008 with two average seasons that ended with Miami out by the first round of the playoffs. Since James and Chris Bosh joined Miami, Spoelstra has led the team to three straight Eastern Conference Championships and two straight Finals titles. You could say his success is because of the talent he has on the squad, but why risk parting ways with him if whatever he's doing is obviously working?
