Are the Nets Going to Retire Jason Kidd's Jersey Number Next Season?

It sure sounds like it.

The 2013-14 NBA season sounds like it's going to be a pretty memorable one for Jason Kidd. For starters, it'll be the first season in almost two decades that won't feature J-Kidd lacing up his sneakers and playing in the league. It'll also be his first season coaching the Brooklyn Nets. And according to Nets rookie Mason Plumlee, it also might be the season that Kidd gets his jersey number retired by the Nets. Plumelee talked to Bleacher Report last week and revealed that he wanted to wear No. 5 next season. But he was told he couldn't pick that number because it might be getting retired soon.

"I wanted 5, 5 is what I wore in college," he said. "I don't want to spoil it, but I think they're going to retire it."

Already? Didn't Kidd, like, just retire? Yeah, and yeah. But even though J-Kidd hasn't been retired for long, it's pretty clear that he's never going to play in the league again. It's also clear that he deserves to have his jersey number retired. So why wait? Stay tuned to see if it actually happens.
