Atlanta Hawks first year head coach, Mike Budenholzer, was arrested last night and charged with a DUI after initially being pulled over for a tail light violation. FYI, this isn't the way you want to be starting out your first head coaching job in the league, Mike.
A state trooper stopped Budenholzer around 10:30 pm on Wednesday night, and when he came up to Budenholzer's Audi A8, he noticed that the coach had "bloodshot and watery eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath."
After a field sobriety test, the trooper arrested Budenholzer, who was later released on $1,524 bond early the next morning. This all comes before Budenholzer has coached the Hawks for even one regular season game.
After 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Budenholzer was regarded as one of the most brilliant assistant coaches in the league. Now, it looks like he's going to have to do a bit of damage control with his reputation.
