NASCAR Driver Jason Leffler Has Passed Away

Tragic.

NASCAR driver Jason Leffler died after crashing into a wall at the Bridgeport Speedway in New Jersey last night.

Leffler was rushed to the hospital via helicopter after being extricated from his dirt track vehicle. According to a police spokesman, Leffler, who was a two-time winner in the Nationwide Series, was unconscious after the crash and had suffered serious head injuries.

He was pronounced dead at 9 p.m., police said.

"NASCAR extends its thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of Jason Leffler who passed away earlier this evening," the organization said on Twitter. "For more than a decade, Jason was a fierce competitor in our sport and he will be missed."

Leffler leaves behind his wife and 5-year young son, Charlie Dean. Leffler was just 37.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Leffler family.
