Before we start this post, let us say this: Regardless of when LeBron James started his NBA career, he would have been an amazing talent. You can try to argue otherwise with us about it. But the guy is a great basketball player and knows how to play the game. So regardless of what era he played in, he would have been an All-Star.
That being said, we realize that not everyone thinks that way or feels that strongly about LBJ. One of those guys is Dennis Rodman. He appeared on The Dan Patrick Show earlier today and revealed that he believes King James would have been merely "average" if he played back in the 1990s.
"It's really not a comparison," The Worm said when asked to compare LeBron to Michael Jordan. "If LeBron was playing in the late '80s or early '90s, he'd be just an average player. What Michael did is more charisma, it's more articulate…When Scottie [Pippen] said LeBron is the best player he's ever seen, I'm like, 'Did you see Michael play? Did you see Michael win 10 scoring titles?'…If Michael played the game today, really? If he played the game at 28 years old today, he would average 40 points a game, probably more—easy."
Rodman also said that the Bulls teams he played on would have absolutely no trouble knocking off the current Heat squad.
"The Heat have better talent than we had," he said, "but we had smarter players. We'd match up with the Heat easy…I would take Chris Bosh out of his damn game easy. That's not even a problem. How would Dwyane Wade match up with Scottie Pippen? Really? Scottie Pippen would guard LeBron easy."
Of course he would! You know, because LeBron is "average" and all. The Worm is entitled to his opinion. But we don't think the matchup would be quite as easy as he makes it out to be. Then again, it's impossible for those two teams to ever really play or for LeBron to take a time machine back to the '90s, so does it really matter? Let's move on to a new discussion.
