The Tesla Model S is a cool car, and by far the most useful electric car ever made, but the roadster was certainly cooler. It was based on a Lotus Elise, and that just made it so much cooler. Sadly, it has been discontinued.

If you're still excited about the idea of an electric Lotus, Detroit Electric has stepped in for you now. The SP:01 will do the sprint to 62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and go up to a top speed of 155 mph, just like the Tesla Raodster, courtesy of a 201 horsepower electric motor. Driven more carefully, the SP:01 is rated to get about 180 miles per charge as well. The SP:01 beats its predecessor in the weigh department, tipping the scales at only 2,403 lbs; a little more than 300 lbs lighter than the Tesla.

Oddly, in the event of a power outage, you can power you home for a little while by using the car's battery.

Expect to see this on sale this year for $135,000.
