With only a couple details left to hammer out, it looks like there's a very good possibility that Mike Brown will be returning to be the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. After spending five seasons with the Cavaliers, Brown was fired in May 2010. He returned to the sidelines one year later as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers after Phil Jackson called it quits.
After tumultuous tenure with the Lakers, which ended after a 1-4 start in the 2012 regular season, Brown was surprisingly fired and eventually, Mike D'Antoni took the reins. Now, with the Cavs coaching position vacant, Brown is close to a five-year, $20 million deal that could bring him back to Cleveland. It is believed that an official announcement could be made as soon as Wednesday. In the meantime, the Cavaliers front office needs to figure out whether or not the Lakers will still need to fork over the $8 million owed to Brown from his contract buyout when the agreement is finalized.
Maybe Brown and the Cavs front office could perform this at some point during the press conference.
UPDATE: According to ESPN, the agreement is a done deal. The media even reached out to LeBron James prior to tonight's Game 2 contest for a comment and he said, "I'm happy for him, very happy for him. I think he's a really good coach, very defensive-minded coach. It'll be good for the young guys that they have." When asked if he contacted Brown to personally congratulate him, James responded, "I don't have a phone right now," which is the result of a personal ban he's put on himself which forbids him from using his phone for the entire playoffs.
