Team/Player: George Sisler
While Ichiro did break this record in 2002, Sisler accomplished this feat in fewer games (154 vs. 162) and at-bats (631 vs. 704). However, he also was able to set this record. which stood for 84 years, thanks in part to a lack of top-level pitching due to baseball's segregationist rules. Had Sisler been forced to go against the top Negro League pitchers, he would not have been able to overpower them to the tune of 42 doubles and 18 triples like he did against some of the sub-par white hurlers he feasted on that season.
