We all know that the McLaren P1 was going to be stupid fast, but we didn't yet know how fast, or what, precisely, was going to make it fast. Now we do.
Powering the P1 is a version of the MP4-12C's 3.8L V8 that produces 727 horsepower that has been mated to a 176 hp electric motor. That's right, the new McLaren hypercar is a 903 hp hybrid. More importantly, what the hybridization does is supplement the gas engine's torque with 192 lb-ft from the electric engine which is available at 0 rpms. Yeah, instant torque is good reason to like electricity. It also has an electric only mode that allows you to turn your incredible, seven figure car into a 176hp green car for up to 6.2 miles; nobody is ever going to use that.
When it comes to acceleration, the P1 is king: 60 mph happens in 2.8 seconds, 100 mph in 5.5 seconds, and 200 mph in 20 seconds. Even though McLaren said that top speed was not a priority, it appears that the P1's top speed is still no joke.
