No Small Feat: MINI Takes Home Dakar Rally Crown

Highly modified Countryman wins 500 mile race.

French pilot Stéphane Peterhansel (and co-pilot Jean-Paul Cottret) took home MINI's second Dakar Rally victory and his eleventh title after two weeks of challenging racing. The 2013 course, rushing through Peru, Argentina and Chile, was completed in just 38 hours, 32 minutes, and 39 seconds.

The Frenchmen drove a modified MINI, designed to look like a Countryman despite not sharing a single part with the production model, with a top speed on 110 mph.
