Over the course of the last couple of seasons, Joakim Noah has developed a pretty ridiculous celebration that he pulls out whenever he hits a big shot. Despite the fact that he has, hands down, one of the ugliest shots we've ever seen, he's employed "finger guns" to help him celebrate. Earlier this year, he even came out and said that no one in the entire NBA can out-celebrate him on the basketball court. But, after last night's Bulls win against the Celtics, Noah revealed that he's put his "fingers guns" in their holsters for the final time due to the tragedy that took place in Newtown, CT last week and the gun problem that's sweeping the nation.
"It wasn't just what happened in Connecticut," he said after the game. "You just have to be kind of compassionate about what's going on, man. We have issues with guns. Gun violence in this country is out of control and you've just got to be sensitive to that. I love this country. This country did so much for me. But, I think it's important to be more critical and we have issues. I feel just as American as I do French and the issues are complicated, but you've got to be sensitive and a lot of kids are dying. In Chicago, a lot of kids are dying in the streets, so that's why I'm not doing that anymore."
Good idea. It's great to see Noah getting on this before the public backlash that probably would have forced him to stop pointing his "finger guns" at some point anyway. And, we're sure he'll come up with a new way to celebrate soon enough. That's just the kind of guy he is.
