Since 1949, Motor Trend has selected a Car of the Year. In some respects, trends have been bucked with the 2013 selection—only one car that didn't run on gas has won before—but in choosing the Tesla Model S, Motor Trend has followed others in celebrating the brilliance of America's best electric car (and, perhaps, the best car in the world).
