David Stern Believes Rajon Rondo Bumped a Referee On Purpose Last Night

If you haven't seen what Rajon Rondo did to a referee at the end of the Celtics/Hawks playoff game last night, watch the video above.

Innocent enough, right? Except that NBA rules specifically prohibit players from making contact with referees. So, it's widely expected that the Celtics point guard will receive at least a one-game suspension for bumping referee Marc Davis at the end of last night's game. And, as for anyone out there who tries to claim that Rondo "accidentally" ran into Davis after tripping over a teammate's foot, NBA Commissioner David Stern has a message for you: No. Just…no.

"I don't want to pre-judge on what the recommendation is going to be," Stern said on ESPN Radio this morning. "But, as a fan, he obviously bumped him. And you know what happens with respect to that…We have a hard and fast rule. Unless somebody trips you and sends you into him, nobody touches a referee. That's the proposition."

Translation: See ya at Game 3 back in Boston, Rondo—if you're lucky.
