There are Six World Champions on the Grid

The 2012 season is going to special for one reason: For the first time in Formula 1 history, there will be six world champions racing against each other. The most accomplished driver of all-time, the seven-time champ, Michael Schumacher has returned with Mercedes-Benz to prove that he's still got some fight left in him. Fernando Alonso, driving for Schumacher's old team (Ferrari), is on a mission to notch a third chip. Also going for a third trophy is the reigning world champion, Sebastian Vettel, who is on a mission to become the third driver in history to win three consecutive titles. Returning to the sport after taking a leave to race in the World Rally Championship is the 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen. Being on Lotus-Renault, it's going to be tough for the Finn to compete with the other five former champs. McLaren-Mercedes is the only team on the grid to have two former world champions: Lewis Hamilton (2008) and Jenson Button (2009). With a strong car, both drivers have the ability to take the top spot this season.
