After four years as manager of England's national football team, Fabio Capello has stepped down. The Football Association confirmed his resignation today and said that the decision came after a meeting with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex Horne.

Capello met with both men to discuss the FA's removal of John Terry's captaincy. Terry was stripped of his captaincy last Friday after being accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand of the Queens Park Rangers F.C. Capello had expressed his displeasure with the FA's decision saying that he felt they should wait until a court decision was made before acting on accusations.

Under Capello England made it to the Round of 16 in the 2010 World Cup where they were then lost to Germany 4-1. That loss was England's worst defeat in World Cup final history.

England's U-21 head coach Stuart Pearce will act as the national team's interim manager when they face the Netherlands on February 29. However, one candidate who seems to be prime for the position is Harry Redknapp who was cleared of tax evasion charges today.

Whoa. And you thought American sports had drama.
