Cheating can get you to appear in and lose a bunch of championship games ... until you get caught that is. The National Collegiate Athletic Association punished Ohio State University after the storied institution gave extra benefits and preferential treatment to players and recruits. OSU will not be able to participate in next year's postseason and will lose nine scholarships over the next three years.
Jim Tressel, Ohio State's head coach at the time of the violations, was given a five-year "show cause" penalty, which enforces steep restrictions should he try to coach over that span. If any school is willing to take a chance on him, he will serve a five-game suspension before being allowed to coach a single practice. He would also not be allowed to coach in the postseason in that year. We doubt any school is that desperate, but we've seen crazier things.
