Last week, Albert Pujols turned a lot of heads when he accepted a 10-year, $254 million deal to play baseball for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. After spending his entire career with the St. Louis Cardinals, there were a lot of people both in and outside of the Lou who were upset with him for leaving. However, according to Pujols' wife Diedre, the reason he left wasn't because he wanted to leave—it was because the Cards made her husband an initial contract offer of "just" five years for $130 million that actually made her question her faith.
"When it all came down, I was mad," she told a Christian radio station in St. Louis recently. "I was mad at God because I felt like all the signs had been being played out through the baseball field, our foundation, our restaurant, the Down Syndrome Center, my relationships, my home, my family...I mean, we had no reason, not one reason, to want to leave. People were deceived by the numbers."
It seems she's gotten over her beef with the big guy in the sky, though. At the end of the interview, she revealed that she thinks divine intervention actually played a part in her hubby landing in Cali. "It's just like God," she said, "to put us on a team called the Angels."
Hey, wait a second: Doesn't Diedre know God's been busy helping Tim Tebow for the last couple of months?!
