Magic Johnson is wondering what might have been. Twenty years after retiring from the NBA for the first time, he wishes he hadn't been so quick to pull the plug on his career because of HIV. He admitted as much during a recent sit-down with Los Angeles Times scribe Bill Plaschke. "If I knew what I know now, I wouldn't have retired," Magic said. "But I didn't know that then. And you've just got to go with what happened."

Magic also claims that other NBA players forced him to rethink his decision when he decided to come back and try to play during the 1995-96 NBA season. "They just didn't want the Lakers to be strong again," he said. "I decided to retire because I didn't want to hurt the game."

Hmmm...What if he hadn't retired? Pretty interesting stuff. [via Lakers Blog]
