Supercar braking systems are a captivating thing. Crafted from expensive, exotic compounds, their main purpose for existing is to be slowly destroyed, all in the name of a driver's personal safety. But what does it take to brake when the well-being of hundreds is at stake on an almost million-pound jet? Boeing has answered that question, giving a glimpse into some of their testing procedures.
To make sure their behemoth 747 can stop without a doubt, Boeing strips the braking pads of all their carbon surfacing, then requires the jumbo jet to go from 200 mph to naught, on braking power alone, no reverse thrusters allowed. So how does the airliner fare under such devolved conditions? Take a look for yourself.
