Roberto Clemente

AGE: 38 (August 18, 1934 – December 31, 1972)
CAUSE OF DEATH: Plane crash
COMPLEX SAYS: With the current era of big contracts, huge endorsement deals, and small balls steroids it's hard imagine ball players like Clemente existed not too long ago. The Puerto Rico native came to big leagues as a 20-year-old, and by the end of his career he would not only be known as one of the greatest players but one of the greatest humanitarians, too. Clemente racked up 15 All-Star appearances, 12 Gold Gloves, and two World series championships in his 17-season career. Just over a year after being named MVP of the 1971 World Series, Clemente was killed in a plane crash while on his way to help earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
