Kanye West's wild return to Twitter continued today with his response to recent accusations of design theft.
Earlier this week, Givenchy design director Tony Spackman, a former Nike designer, claimed that Kanye West had stolen a sketch that was publicly available on his Cargo Collective website. "When Kanye rips your 10 year old sketch and claims it," Spackman wrote, before later clarifying that the sketch was actually 13 years old.
West has seemingly taken swift action, passing the blame to a recent addition to the Yeezy design team that has since been let go. In a subsequent tweet, West went on to credit Spackman as the "true creator of this amazing work."
Today I learned that a newly hired designer on the Yeezy team presented work that was not of their own. This person has immediately been let go from the Yeezy brand.
In a moment of inspiration, energy and excitement I had posted this sketch and would like to acknowledge the true creator of this amazing work, Tony Spackman.
Ironically, West has recently tweeted in favor of "taking ideas," claiming that all great artists "take and update." He even went as far as saying that it's "important that ideas see the light of day even if you don't get the credit for them." Thankfully for Spackman, West had a change of heart and has given credit where it's due.
