OK, maybe Biz Markie did. But most people treated sneakers as the disposable pieces of athletic wear they were, and only bought a new pair when the old ones wore out. Even the majority of NBA players who got their shoes for free would play in them for weeks, if not months, at a time. Sneaker collecting was for the obsessives and the wealthy, not every teenager with an internet connection.
