We now have a better idea of what started the online beef between Jake Paul and Zayn Malik.

It appears that Paul and Gigi Hadid’s Twitter comments were a result of Malik turning down Paul’s offer to party with him and his friends in Las Vegas, TMZ reports. Paul and Malik were in Vegas to attend the Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Insiders told the outlet that Paul and Malik were staying at the same hotel over the weekend, and even ended up on the same floor with adjacent rooms. After the fight, Paul was headed back to his room when he saw Malik and his friends get off the elevator. Paul allegedly asked if they were going out to party.

It’s unclear what happened next because both sides tell a different story. Paul’s sources say Malik shot back, rudely saying, “I don't give a fuck if you have a good night.” Paul was purportedly stunned by Malik’s remark but let it go. At the fight, Paul was also seen arguing with someone in the crowd.

Paul and Malik apparently ran into each other again in the hotel hallway and tried to dead their beef. But, according to Paul, Malik copped an attitude and yelled, “Who the fuck do you think you are?”

Sources told TMZ that Malik asked if Paul wanted to “test” him. Hadid then spoke up on Twitter on Malik’s behalf, calling Paul “ugly” and “irrelevant.” The outlet says that Paul isn’t holding this against Malik, and said that the drinking could have led to his behavior.

Malik insiders don’t exactly agree with this version of events. TMZ was told Paul was drunkenly bothering Malik to party with him, even though Malik said no. It was only mentioned that Paul was drinking and not Malik.
