Police in Florida fatally shot a man who killed one sheriff's deputy and injured another, authorities say.
The Associated Press reports that two deputies in Tallahassee, Fla. responded to a call about a man who had set his home on fire. One of the deputies was killed in the ensuing shootout, and another's life was spared by his bulletproof vest.
A police officer who lives in the area retrieved his own bulletproof vest and weapon, then rushed to the scene. A government official told the Associated Press that the officer was forced to kill the man.
The fire at the man's home was put out, but the Associated Press adds that no names have been released. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
