“Happiness can be found even in the darkest times if one only remembers to turn on the light.” Those words were spoken by Albus Dumbledore in the third Harry Potter film, The Prisoner of Azkaban. They were also spoken by Cassidy Stay, the lone survivor of a tragic shooting in Texas on July 9th, at a memorial service for her family. So, when word reached series creator J. K. Rowling, the author slipped into the robes of the beloved Hogwarts headmaster for one more piece of correspondence.

Stay received a care package from Rowling that included a letter penned by "Dumbledore," a wand, an acceptance letter into Hogwarts, and a signed copy of Prisoner of Azkaban. While some fans on Facebook were urging Rowling to meet with Stay, this method allows Stay to enjoy a private gift from the author of the beloved children's series.

Stay survived the shooting that claimed the lives of her family when the bullet intended for her hit her finger and grazed her skull, saving her but allowing her to play dead. She then warned police that the shooter was headed to her grandparents' home. The shooter, Ronald Haskell, has been charged with capital murder in the fallout from the tragedy.
