Star Trek star, Zachary Quinto, who plays "Spock", has just speculated on the plot for the next installment of the sci-fi franchise.

Quinto told the crowd at the Television Critics Press Tour that the next film will probably be about the five-year mission.

“I think the five-year mission will be a part of this next film in some way,” Quinto said. “We’re coming up on the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic sci-fi series in entertainment history so it’s inherently an ongoing story. But I do think that we’ll feel some sense of evolution in these characters that’s been building through the first few films.”

In the original TV series, the five-year mission was given to the Starfleet starships to explore deep space.

Quinto also spoke about Roberto Orci, who will make his directorial debut with the third Trek film after J.J. Abrams dropped out to direct Star Wars. He called Orci a Star Trek "purist" and spoke about his excitement for the film.

“Star Trek 3″ is expected to premiere in 2016.
