While it may not have the same wow factor as saving Gwen Stacy, Spider-Man has done a real-life heroic feat for New Yorkers by bring $210 million to the state's economy.

Here are the details of the super-sum Sony contributed filming The Amazing Spider-Man 2, according to Variety:

The sum, according to figures release by the MPAA, breaks down to $44 million in wages to New York residents, $4.5 million in taxes to the state and $50 million in general spending throughout the state, as well as $.9 million for catering, $4 million for site fees and $5.7 million for hotels.
The pic employed a cast and crew that totaled 3,900 plus 5,223 extras, hired for a cume of 15,000 days of work.

New York has been pushing hard for projects to be filmed in the state, offering tax incentives for film productions. While it might seem crazy that a New York icon like Spidey would be filmed in Toronto or Chicago, that sort of thing happens all the time. Hopefully our favorite web-head's return to the Big Apple is a permanent move.
