The newest Mass Effectgame is playable right now at BioWare's Montreal Studio. But beyond the winter wall of the North it will stay for now. BioWare manager Aaryn Flynn tweeted “Great time playing the next Mass Effect game in Montreal. Ambitious. Beautiful. Fresh but recognizable. And fun!”

This adds a tiny crumb of known information about the new game that is currently playable. BioWare has formally said that this game will not include Commander Shepard, the protagonist of the previous games, as his story has been wrapped up in the original trilogy. While the game doesn't currently have a public name there is no shortage of material from the Mass Effect universe to base a game off of.

The new game will also run on the ridiculously highly detailed Frostbite 2 engine and a lot of the game's basic workings are taken directly from Dragon Age 3. For its part Dragon Age 3 won't be released until late 2014 which is why it's so surprising that the latest Mass Effect would be playable at such an early stage.

What are you looking for in a new Mass Effect game? I could use a little more shooter and a bit less love affairs and chatting. What's your take?
