Good news for fans of The Amazing Spider-Man: Sony Pictures has just announced both a third and fourth sequel to the franchise, and even set their release dates as well. In a press release, Sony detailed that the currently filming second movie, as previously reported, will still be released on May 2nd, 2014—after that, a third sequel is set for June 10th, 2016, and then a fourth is set for May 4, 2018. That's one new Spider-Man film roughly every two years.
As Slashfilm points out, the announcement of the sequels shows "an insane confidence in the future of this comic book franchise," and likely means that a plot arc through at least the third film has already been finalized.
